Read and upload the driver card from the cab
The Tacho Manager Android app runs the full web app and adds what a browser cannot do: it drives a USB smart-card reader, saves and uploads the driver card file from the truck, writes the download date back to the card and delivers push notifications for reminders and transport orders.
Company account
Driver account
Drivers use the app with a driver account to download and upload their own card; companies use a company account to read any driver's card, receive fleet reminders on the phone and dispatch orders.
Why it matters
The download date written to the card
After every successful read the app writes the last-download date to the card and records it in the account, so the card itself shows when it was last downloaded. A Mark as downloaded button does the same without a full read.
Push notifications on the phone
Card and document expiries, overdue downloads, infringement increases and new transport orders arrive as Android notifications. Each reminder type has its own push switch on the Reminders page.
Sign in with Google
One tap opens Google in the phone's browser and brings you back to the app signed in. It works for existing accounts and for creating a new one.
Camera for tickets, documents and stops
Wherever the app asks for a file, the phone offers the camera as well as the file picker, so fuel tickets, driver documents and order stop photos can be taken on the spot.
Drivers run their own account
A driver links to a company with an invitation code, edits their own name and ID numbers, changes their password and can delete their driver record and files from the app.
How it works

Install the app and sign in
Sign in on the Android app with your email and password or with Google, using a company or a driver account. Allow notifications when the phone asks so reminders and orders can reach you.

Plug in the reader
Connect a USB smart-card reader to the phone. The app asks for USB permission once, detects the reader and expands the reader panel on the Info dashboard with the reader's name.

Insert the card and tap Download card
The app reads the card block by block and shows the overall progress and the current block, such as Driver activity or Events. A copy is saved in the phone's Downloads folder and the file is uploaded.

The card is stamped and the reports update
The last-download date is written to the card and the dashboard refreshes: infringements, activities and the rest planner are recalculated from the new file.

Stay informed on the road
Reminders and new transport orders arrive as push notifications, and the bell in the app header lists them so you can mark each one as read.
In detail
Reader panel on the Info dashboard
The Smart Card Reader panel appears on the Info page only inside the Android app and only for a signed-in company or driver account; the read-only demo never shows it. It checks the reader every 1.5 seconds and opens by itself when a reader is attached.
Live progress for every card block
During a read the panel shows two bars: overall progress and the current block, named as the card stores it, for example Driver activity, Events, Faults, Vehicles used, Places or Border crossings.
The driver is matched from the file
On a company account the uploaded card is matched to a driver by licence number or card number, and a driver not yet on the list is added from the file when the account has room. A driver account always uploads to its own card.
Last-download stamp
The download date is written to the card after each successful read, and the Mark as downloaded button writes it on demand when a card is in the USB reader. The date is stored in the account as well.
Push notifications you control
The phone is registered for push after sign-in. On the Reminders page each reminder type has its own push switch, announcements can be pushed too, and a driver linked to a company is notified when an order is assigned. Demo accounts never receive push.
A local copy of every file
Each card file is saved in the Downloads/TachoManager folder on the phone before it is uploaded, so you keep a copy even if the connection drops. The app also tells you when a newer version is required.
Questions
Which phones and readers work?
An Android phone with USB host support and a USB smart-card reader that follows the CCID standard. The app runs in an Android WebView; there is no iPhone app at present.
Do I need the app to upload files?
No. The web app works in any mobile browser and you can upload .DDD or .TGD files from the phone. The app is needed for the card reader, the download stamp and push notifications.
Can a company account read any driver's card?
Yes. The reader panel on the company Info dashboard reads whichever card is inserted and matches it to the driver from the file. The account needs upload rights and at least one driver on the Drivers page.
What does Mark as downloaded do?
It writes the current date into the card's last-download record without reading the whole card. The app does this automatically after every successful read as well.
Can a driver delete their account from the app?
Yes. Account → Driver shows a danger zone that deletes the driver record and all its files after the card number is typed to confirm. The Security tab changes the password and requests deletion of the login account.
